What is TinyUmbrella?
If you are here, I’m pretty sure you were in the middle of an iPhone jailbreak process which requires you to use a software named TinyUmbrella. Well, TinyUmbrella is a mixture of two programs, TinyTSS and of course Umbrella.
Umbrella – This tool does what iTunes does during an iOS device restore process. The difference is that this tool will save the results in a single file named SHSH. This file provide you the ability to restore back to a previous firmware indefinitely.
TinyTSS – This little tool is a tiny java app that acts as your own signature service. When iTunes verifies the restore for your iOS device, it will try to see if you’re allowed to restore back to the version that you are requesting. With TinyTSS together with the SHSH Blob file(s) you obtained from Umbrella, you can restore to any version of those saved SHSH files whenever you want!
Thus, TinyUmbrella is a combination of the two tools explained above. For those who don’t know, you can now save your iOS 4.x SHSH regardless of whether your device is jailbroken or not. It supports iPhone 3Gs, iPod touch 2G/3G and also iPad. If anyone of you have an iPhone 2G or 3G, you don’t have to be worry as you don’t need to save any SHSH files for these devices.
Also, for those who concern about unlocking your iPhone, TinyUmbrella can be your savior as it can preserve your current iOS baseband when you upgrade your iPhone to a newer iOS version. Preserving your baseband is essential for the iPhone unlocking process.
