Blu-ray Players Prices On The Rise After The Dead Of HD HVD

Blu-ray Players Prices On The Rise After The Dead Of HD HVDIf you’ve not read about format war, do read about it.

According to Pricegrabber.com, in February, the month Toshiba said it would no longer produce HD DVD players, the average price jumped to $604 from $467. Not only blu-ray players, but also other players prices on the rise.

Darren Davis, VP of product marketing for PriceGrabber, said Thursday, the introduction of expensive players with features that went above the norm caused some of the increase. Taking away that factor, however, still left an increase between $20 and $50 on most players in February.

A survey made by pricegrabber.com found that people were focusing on high-definition DVD players less because of confusion over the format war and more because of price. It’s not strange that 56% of the respondents said they would buy a Blu-ray disc player if there were a significant price drop and only 19% of them said they were concerned about obsolescence in buying either an HD DVD or Blu-ray player.

My Views:
It’s very obvious that people recommend Blu-ray more than HD-DVD as you can clearly see. The Blu-ray industry definitely smell the big money after HD DVD demise. I think its going to be a long time before more people can get their hands on Blu-Ray Players as the prices are now above what they expected.
I heard a rumour somewhere saying that Stan Glasgow, Sony Electronics US president, predicted that by the end of 2009, prices for a Blu-ray players could fall under $200. So guess what? Most of us are more than willing to wait for the prices to fall.

Alvin, I agree with you. I will get one only if its prices drop. Since Warner Bros and most of those big companies agree wth Blu-Ray and declared its victorious, everyone should get one right?

Dear Jackyou, thanks for your lovely comment.
I personally think that not everyone can afford to get one. Whether Blu-Ray becomes king in the future or not, it’s still a question mark.
