Jailbreak + Unlock iPhone 2G on iOS 3.1.3
Unfortunately, iOS 3.1.3 is the last version supported by the first generation of iPod Touch and iPhone 2G. Thus, if you are looking to upgrade your iPhone 2G, iOS 3.1.3 is the last and the only choice for your iPhone. Please be warned that all instructions in post only applies to iPhone 2G and the old generation iPod Touch. iOS 3.1.3 firmware updates baseband to 05.12.01 on iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G, thus making it impossible for these two devices to get unlocked. This article will show you step-by-step instructions on how to jailbreak and unlock your iPhone 2G or first generation iPod Touch on the last supported firmware iOS 3.1.3 using redsn0w 0.9.6.
How to Jailbreak + Unlock iPhone 2G on iOS 3.1.3
Step 2: Run iTunes and update your iPhone 2G to the original firmware iOS 3.1.3. (To do so, connect your iPhone to your computer via USB and start iTunes. iTunes will automatically detect the version of your iOS device and find the most appropriate update for your device [In this case, it should be iOS 3.1.3]. If an update is needed, an update message will appears. Click the Update button to proceed updating.)
Step 3: Open redsnow 0.9.6. Click the Browse button and then point it to the original iPhone 3.1.3 IPSW firmware file to proceed. (If it shows Unable to recognize specified IPSW, then you have to download iOS 3.1.2 and point redsn0w to it. It will still jailbreak your iPhone with iOS 3.1.3.)
Step 4: Select both Install Cydia and Unlock options.
Step 5: Before you click Next, please make sure that your iPhone 2G is both OFF and stay CONNECTED to your computer.
Step 6: At this point, redsn0w requires you to put your iPhone into Recovery Mode. Simply follow the on-screen instructions to do so. (Press and hold Power button and then hold Home button too without releasing Power button. After few seconds, release Power button but keep holding Home button until installation begins.)
Step 7: Redsn0w will now do all the rest for you and reboot your iPhone automatically when it’s done. After restart, you will find your iPhone jailbroken with firmware version 3.1.3.
Step 8 – Unlock: To unlock your iPhone 2G, run Cydia on your iPhone and search for BootNeuter. Install the app once found. Make sure that you have BigBoss & Planet-iPhones repository added in Cydia before you make your search for this app. [BigBoss & Planet-iPhones repository: http://apt.bigboss.us.com/repofiles/cydia/]
Step 9 – Unlock: Restart your iPhone after installation is completed. When BootNeuter starts, in order to make sure that phone is unlocked on 3.1.2 firmware, set the settings as shown in the screenshot below.
Step 10: That’s it! Enjoy your newly jailbroken and unlock-ed iPhone 2G!
