Fix – Error Code: 80040154 Windows Live Messenger 2011 MSN 7

This post provides the fixes for Windows Live Messenger or MSN error code 80040154 and 80040111. Symptoms: Receive error code 80040154 or 80040111 when signing into MSN or Windows Live Messenger. Causes: MSXML library may be corrupted or missing.

Solution: Re-register or reinstall msxml3.dll

Fix: error code 80040154 or 800401111 in Windows 7 or Vista

Step 1 – msn messenger error code 80040154

Click Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> right click Command Prompt.

Step 2

Click Run as administrator.

Step 3

Type the following command and press Enter:
REGSVR32 %windir%system32msxml3.dll

Step 4

If the file can be located and is available, you will receive the following message:
“DllRegisterServer succeeded in C:\Windows\System32\msxml3.dll is succeeded.”

If you see the message, restart your computer, and then sign into Windows Live Messenger again.

If you don’t receive the message or is not successful, go to Step 5.

Step 5 – msn messenger error code 80040154

Visit this page in Microsoft Web site. Click the msxml3.msi link near the bottom of the page, and then follow the wizard to complete the installation.

Restart your computer, and then sign into Windows Live Messenger again.

If all the above method doesn’t work for you, I would recommend you to download and run Registry Easy to fix your errors and speed up your computer.

Fix: error code 80040154 or 800401111 in Windows XP

Step 1:

Click Start -> Run.

Step 2:

Type the following command and press Enter:
REGSVR32 %windir%system32msxml3.dll

Step 3:

If the file can be located and is available, you will receive the following message:
“DllRegisterServer succeeded in C:\Windows\System32\msxml3.dll is succeeded.”

If you see the message, restart your computer, and then sign into Windows Live Messenger again.

Other Possible Solutions

In some rare cases, MSN connection error can be caused by driver failure or missing driver. I would recommend you to download and run Driver Robot to automatically search and install drivers for your computer. Otherwise, you’ll have to manually seek for the driver that causes the error, then reinstall or update the broken driver.

    Very simple solution. Copy wldcore.dll and wldlog.dll from C:Program FilesWindows LiveShared to C:Program FilesWindows LiveContacts.
    Then run live messenger.
